Officer Bernard Waddell, Sr.
January 22, 1964 - April 1, 2020

The New Jersey County Jail Wardens Association
is heartbroken at the passing of a 28 year veteran of the Hudson County Corrections and Rehabilitations. Officer Waddell, 56 years old, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 from Covid-19 complications and was apparently the first law enforcement officer in New Jersey to succumb to the outbreak. Bernard was married and the father of three and is remembered by colleagues as a family man who worked long hours but also found time to participate in charity events for those in need in Jersey City.

"He was a good officer and even a better man." said Ron Edwards, Hudson County's Director of Corrections. "Always had a smile and always had a kind word. A true gentleman and brave officer."
