Officer John Palmer Austin, IV
December 26, 1981-July 16, 2020

The New Jersey County Jail Wardens Association
is heartbroken at the passing of a 12 year law enforcement veteran. John was an officer in Salem County Jail after transferring from Gloucester County in 2013.

Officer Austin began his law enfocement career in 2008 when he was hired by the Gloucester County Jail. When Gloucester County shut it doors to housing inmates, Austin was one of the first to apply to Salem County as an intergovermental transfer. Austin was a dedicated husband, father, son, brother and uncle, nothing brought more joy to John than spending time with his family.  Whether it was just the daily running around with his  twins, Maddison and Logan, or spending time at the beach in Brigantine, family came first to John.  He was passionate about fishing with family and friends.  He also enjoyed jiu-jitsu at Hassetts with his son Logan and supported his daughter, Maddison's love for ballet.  His obsession with Oakley sunglasses is known by all who knew and loved him.

Salem County Warden Cuzzupe moment of silence.
